How it all began.......
It is simpliest to say it started at the Olive Garden in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where Fanny and I discovered that we both enjoyed the soup and salad lunch and began talking about how wonderful it was to connect to family and how long it had been since everyone had been together.
Suddenly, out of the conversation came the idea of a reunion over Columbus day weekend--a three day weekend for most, if not all of us, and perhaps, I thought people could extended the trip by a travel day on either side of the weekend. We figured out that Columbus Day weekend wasn't that far from the 95th Wedding anniversary--and so an idea was born. My caveat to Fanny was to run it by Diane in case we were both chasing an impossible dream.
Two hours later, I was looking at potential properties with Diane after realizing that you can't rent a house from a Thursday to a Tuesday; you had to rent from Saturday to Saturday. The dream was changing but it was still a dream.
As the person who may have been the most isolated from the family (or among the most isolated) the chance to catch up with everyone as adults is exciting. And can you believe that picture is North Street before the porch we knew and loved was added. That is grandpa Fair is sitting on the step leaning against the right pillar. Great Grandma Sarah is sitting on the chair. I am the only one of you that remembers her. The rest of you are too young.
